The Meduza

The Meduza History

The Meduza, or Jellyfish, was a prototype presented by WSK (Wytwornia Sprzetu Komunikacyjnego - Transport Equipment Works), a division of PZL (Polskie Zaklady Lotnicze - Polish Aeronautical Works), in the middle of 1957. The in-house designed (and not to mention, very round) body of this minicar rode on a platform chassis. All mechanicals, including the rear-mounted 300cc 2-stroke motor, are practically the same as those found on WSK's other design of the time, the Mikrus. The general dimensions, such as the 3-meter length and 1850 mm wheelbase, are also virtually identical. Its mass is somewhere around 500 kg and its fuel economy ranges from 4.8 to 6.5 liters/100km.

The Meduza did not make it into production, although according to some this car inspired Ferdinand Porsche to design the legendary model 911

The interior of the car is very spartan and the rear bench seating should be in reality only considered for children.

As this fine Meduza specimen from Muzeum Techniki in Warsaw, Poland, shows, access to the trunk is through the opening disguised as a grill. Accessing the trunk can also be done from the inside.
